In July 2022, Panasonic announced the construction of the $4 billion, 4.7 million-square-foot facility in De Soto, KS – the largest private investment in the history of the state. At 4.7 million square feet — roughly the size of 225 football fields — the $4 billion plant will boost clean energy and, in doing so, help cities cut costs and reduce pollution that harms human health. This Japanese company making such a strong commitment to their future in Kansas is an extremely significant step in centering the Kansas City metro as a global metropolis in the heart of America. But what does it mean for the average citizen? What is the organization doing for the community - and what sorts of cultural exchanges are taking place? These questions, and more, will be answered as the IRC is joined by Julie Sailors, Community Affairs Manager at Panasonic Energy for the next installment of our Difference Makers series.
