Policy Roundtable: Displacement + Refugees (free event)

Co-Presented by the International Relations Council and the International Rescue Committee

This policy roundtable is designed to provide a broader understanding of the global refugee experience. While conversations about refugee resettlement often begin with what happens after someone arrives in the United States, this discussion will explore the events that come long before resettlement.
These will include: the causes of displacement, the legal process for obtaining refugee status, and the realities of life while awaiting a durable solution. By examining the refugee journey from start to finish, our aim is that participants will gain a more complete understanding of the international systems, policies, and humanitarian challenges that shape refugee resettlement.

To guide us through these topics, we will be joined by two presenters in conversation with each other. Atim Longa is the State Coordinator at the Kansas Office for Refugees, and David Mazimano is the Community Engagement Coordinator at the International Rescue Committee's Kansas City Field Office.
