Patty Prewitt is an accomplished author, poet and playwright. She holds Associate of Arts degrees from both Lincoln University and Washington University Saint Louis and a paralegal certificate from Northwest Missouri Community College, and was certified by the International Sports Sciences Association in Fitness Nutrition, Senior Fitness, Strength & Conditioning, and Yoga. She has participated in numerous theatrical productions sponsored by Prison Performing Arts Saint Louis. For 20 years she designed computer tracking systems for the Missouri Department of Corrections on an IBM AS/400 mainframe. All these accomplishments were achieved while serving nearly four decades in prison for the wrongful conviction in the death of her husband, Bill Prewitt, who was murdered by an intruder. Her memoir, Trying to Catch Lightning in a Jar, published by Some People Press, was released this May. This fall she is returning to Washington University to earn her Bachelor of Science, which has been on her bucket list since 1967.
