Featured speaker: Grady Atwater, “John Brown, a Lit Match in a Tinder Box"
This presentation will explore the realities and ramifications of John Brown’s abolitionist crusade in Kansas Territory and the nation.
Grady Atwater is the Site Administrator of the John Brown Museum State Historic Site in Osawatomie, Kansas, and has served in that role for 20 years. He is also an adjunct Social Sciences instructor at the Miami County Campus of Fort Scott Community College in Paola, Kansas. Atwater has written over 200 “History and Heritage” columns for the Miami County Republic newspaper. He holds a Master of Arts degree in History from Emporia State University. His historical research focuses on the life of John Brown and his impact on history and the present day, and the abolitionist movement in American history and its impact on modern American culture.
