What we're about

I am creating this Meet-Up group for ladies and men,  single or married (ages 50 plus) to get together and enjoy a variety of (mostly outdoor) activities during the summer time, May 1 to Nov. 1st.  Meet some new people and create some great new friendships along the way. Planned activities will include bike rides,  Music events at wineries, Happy Hour, Lunches and Dinners to outdoor patios.  And many events at the Kelowna Yacht Club, including lunches, dinners, music events and cruises on my Pontoon Boat.
No guests please, (but everyone is more than welcome to join), because everyone has to agree to the waiver that is included in many of the events.  By signing up for an event, you are agreeing to the waiver that is included.

In order to be a member, everyone must post their first name AND at least their last initial, to help tell those apart who have the same name.   You MUST have a clear head shot photo so we can identify you at events.    Ideas for activities are always welcome.

Membership dues will be $10. per year (payable every May 1st) to subsidize the yearly admin fees charged by Meetup, and for other costs incurred running the group, payable by e-transer to kelownaoutdooractivities@shaw.ca   For password question -  boat?  Answer -pontoon.    Please pay your membership fee before signing up for an event.

PLEASE keep track of the events you are signed up for, and change your rsvp to not going as soon as possible.     No Shows or cancelling a day before an event when there are reservations are the most frustrating part of running a group.   If you are a "No Show" or cancel a few hours before the start of an event, or the day before, to an event where we have reservations, then usually your spot cannot be filled because everyone on the waitlist has already made other plans, so then we are left with an empty chair at the restaurant, which is not fair to the restaurant and not fair to those on the waitlist who did not get to go because you held a reservation in your name for quite some time and did not change your rsvp early enough. Anyone cancelling late will not be able to book any more events where there are reservations, because almost every time we have lunch or dinner reservations there is always an empty chair because someone cancels late and we have to try to prevent that from happening. Thank you for your understanding.

Please make sure your settings are set so that you receive updates from this group (they all go through Meet-up),  and always check the event before you go to make sure the time has not been changed or the event has not been canceled.    Thank you for your cooperation, it is greatly appreciated.

I look forward to meeting you all, let's have a FUN summer!!!

Cruise to Okanagan Lake Resort for lunch at the Tiki Hut

Needs a location

Weather forecast for Sunday is a sunny and beautiful 25°, so let's get out and enjoy a final cruise to the Tiki Hut! There needs to be a minimum of six people signed up to go.

Meet at 11:20am at the Downtown Marina dock, at the foot of the Sails sculpture, and walk up the ramp, and through the archway to the very farthest OUTSIDE public dock We will be departing at 11:30am sharp. We will return to the dock around 3:30-4pm.

Guests are allowed. They don't have to pay the membership fee, they can just pay the gas fee. So if you have some friends that you would like to invite along, please feel free to do so.

We will cruise to the Okanagan Lake resort and tie up at the dock and have lunch at the Tiki Hut. It takes about an hour and a half of cruising each way. The tacos are amazing and so are the margaritas. There is a beach right next door where we can go for a swim after lunch. So wear your swimsuit if you want to go for a dip and bring yourself a towel. (Everyone is responsible for their own lunch).

(Please make sure your $10. seasonal membership fees are paid to [masked] before booking any event.) Use boat? as security question and pontoon as the answer.

It is illegal to drink alcohol onboard a boat so no alcohol is allowed. You can bring yourself water and soft drinks and put them in a thermos to keep them cold. Please bring as small of a bag as possible, there is no room for 10 large bags on the boat. Sorry, but any large bags will have to be left on the dock.

There is no charge for the cruise, but there is a $45. contribution for gas. Insurance dictates we have to do it this way. We are not allowed to charge for the cruise, but passengers are allowed to contribute for gas. Payment must be made by e-transfer to [masked]. Security question: boat? Answer: pontoon. Please help me out by indicating which date you are booking for, so I don't have to search all the cruises to find your name and mark you as paid.

It is your responsibility to find the group. PLEASE DON’T BE LATE! Do not call and ask us to wait for you, you will be holding up everyone else and it causes a lot of problems. If you are late, you will forfeit your ticket. Plan to leave early and get there on time!

Best place to park is the library parkade, it is free on weekends.I would suggest downloading the app "Pay by Phone", then you can add another hour onto your time if we all decide to stay out later.
Sorry, no transfers or refunds allowed, unless it is cancelled due to weather. If heavy rain or strong winds are forecast, it will be cancelled, and you can choose another date or ask for a refund. I will also post it on the site by 9am if it is cancelled, so make sure you check the website before you head out. If you have to cancel shortly before departure date, you can post a message on the event page and say you are unable to make the cruise and would somebody like to buy your ticket. You are allowed to sell your ticket to another member.
When you book a cruise, you are taking a chance on the weather, you cannot expect it to be perfect so if there are only possible rain showers predicted, it may go ahead. The pontoon has a triple bimini, so there is cover over the entire boat (from rain or sun).
I will be your Captain and look forward to a wonderful afternoon on our beautiful lake with you!
Disclaimer & Assumption of Risk/Liability: Boating, like all sports have inherent risks and dangers. All passengers are responsible for their own safety during all Kelowna Outdoor Activities events, voluntarily accepts any and all risks of injury, harm, medical conditions, or property damage, assumes all liabilities, and waives any and all damages against Kelowna Outdoor Activities (including its organizers, hosts, and members). By signing up for this event, you agree to this waiver.

Culture at the Kelowna Art Gallery

Needs a location

A free opportunity for culture! The Kelowna Art Gallery's exhibit "From Warhol to Banksy" (free on Thursdays) invites you to view works of art that define the Pop Art movement and highlights the careers of some of the art world’s most iconic figures. This exhibition features works by artists Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Takashi Murakami, Banksy, and Mr. Brainwash.

Pop Art, known for its commentary on consumerism, social consciousness, and, more recently, activism, is not just a phenomenon of the 1960s. The evolution of Pop Art, from Andy Warhol’s infamous Marilyn Monroe screen prints to Banksy’s guerilla street art, has completely blurred the lines between high and low art. Through a selection of prints, paintings, sculpture, and ephemera, visitors will see first-hand how Pop Art continues to critique our world and challenges us to think about the issues that persist in our everyday life.

These are pieces from a private collection on loan to the Art Gallery, and it will be your only chance to see them.

After viewing the exhibit, those who would like to will head to King Taps for a drink. appie, and/or dessert. We have a reservation for 8 people at 8pm. That can be varied depending on response.

Field of Screams Corn Maze at O’Keefe Ranch

Needs a location

This will be a no-host event.

# The Okanagan's scariest corn maze

Field of Screams at O’Keefe Ranch is now going into its ninth year and their haunted corn mazes are sure to be scarier than ever this October.
Starting Friday, guests can immerse themselves in one of four frightening mazes steaming from this year's theme, ‘Theatre of Terror’.
A big ‘ol throwback to the first ever Field of Screams that debuted in 2015 that featured plots from multiple cinematic horror films.

The first maze titled, ‘Classics From The Cyrpt’ recreates all the classic horror stories like the Wolfman, Frankenstein, and Dracula which is sure to chill you to the core.
‘Nightmare Next Door’ puts you as the main character in a 1980s classic slasher-horror film and will make you second guess what really goes bump in the night.
The third themed maze, ‘Forgotten Space’ based on our extraterrestrial neighbors is set to drive the nightmares as you’re stalked by menacing sci-fi alien creatures.
With three of the four mazes containing props and actors set to jump out and send shivers down your spine, the fourth maze remains the same as last year, completely dark.
No actors, no props, no lights, no sound, just you and your imagination to make you question reality.

This year’s Field of Screams runs limited nights from Sept. 30 to Oct. 30, with gates opening at 6:30 pm and events starting at 7 pm.
Field of Screams tickets are alreadyavailable online.

I would suggest waiting until a few people sign up, and then buy your tickets to make sure there is someone to go with. When you buy your ticket, please post online that you have it.
