“Still ... dreaming:” The 7th Annual Dr. MLK, Jr. Walk

Details

You may want to arrive early and attend the usual wreath laying ceremony at 9 am. Our 7th Annual MLK Walk route again has several easy access points to the Metro. We begin at the MLK Monument at 10am, traverse past the Jefferson Monument, the Wharf, the Titanic Monument and along the waterfront to Nationals Park (2 miles). Then onto the Anacostia Boardwalk with an option to participate in the one-mile Anacostia MLK Parade at 11 am. We'll visit the H St. Ben's Chili Bowl (6 miles) for lunch. Some may want to end there or at the Catholic U. Metro (7.5). Others will "march" to the National Cathedral (11 miles). Then complete the loop back at the MLK Monument (14.5 miles) start by 3-4pm. In keeping with this MLK dedicated “day of service,” consider bringing a backpack or bag for litter gathering? There will be a minimum of three restroom opportunities. Dress accordingly and please remember that sufficiently hydrating can be even more important on a cold day.

In the future, you can contribute route and diversions of interest thereby deciding the route by clicking "discussions" and commenting on your preferences. Coming soon: The McLean Loop Trail, a max of 16 miles on the Potomac Heritage National Scenic trail from Scotts Run and along the Potomac to Pimmit Run and a loop back to Scotts Run.

We also organize a more traditional 50-Mile Kennedy March in Indianapolis, annually each May, to recognize MLK's death and RFK's tribute speech there that same night. The brothers Kennedy and MLK are linked with Abe Lincoln in this song:
