Once a year, every September, many buildings in London which are not normally open to the public,throw open their doors for everyone to visit the art and treasures inside. Open House weekend provides a rare insight into many old and fabulous buildings in London. If you love London, its buildings, its history and/or architecture then this is your weekend. This event effectively provides a tour of several of those buildings.Open House London celebrates all that is best about the capital’s buildings, places and neighbourhoods. Every September, it gives a unique opportunity to get out and under the skin of London’s amazing architecture, with over 700 buildings of all kinds opening their doors to everyone – all for free.
London is famous for its many beautiful buildings. This afternoon, Saturday, we will visit and view a few of them.

More Details;
- CARPENTERS HALL
Livery Company. Home of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters. First built in 1429, subsequently destroyed and rebuilt on more than one occasion. Beautiful panelling and carvings throughout.
- SALTERS HALL
A rare example of a Brutalist Livery Hall which underwent renovation last year, with new pavilion , exhibition and archive space and garden.
- HABERDASHERS HALL
Opened by the Queen in 2002. The first new livery Hall in the city for 40 years. Peaceful courtyard with unusual fountain. Beautiful interiors.
- BARTS GREAT HALL
Bart's Great Hall was founded in 1123 and contains spectcular canvases by William Hogarth. The historic church of St. Bartholomew the Less is next door.
- BARNARDS INN
Barnard's Inn dates back to the mid 13th century. The Great Hall was built in the 16th century. In the past it was the Mercer's School and today it is occupied by Gresham College.
- DR JOHNSON'S HOUSE
Fine example of Queen Anne townhouse over 4 floors with all original panelling. Home of Samuel Johnson of 'When you are tired of London you are tired of life' fame. Dr Johnson is also credited as the author of the first english dictionary.
However, please note that we may need to be flexible as the afternoon progresses, and there may be queuing for entry. If we have time we may be able to visit another property.
All buildings listed are free to enter this weekend.
Be prepared for a some walking between buildings and a little queuing also, in order to gain entry into the more popular buildings.
