For October we will begin a semi-monthly series reading the four books on the virtues written by Ryan Holiday, starting with "Courage is Calling", which will be followed by "Discipline is Destiny", "Right Thing Right Now" and his upcoming release "Wisdom Takes Work". Ryan's books lend themselves well to a book club setting, as they are approachable and are generally a series of short chapters that contain a historical example, an examination of the effect philosophy has on the subject and how this can lesson be used in our daily lives. Regarding this months selection, Aristotle held that 'Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees the others.'
This month we will also return to the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. I am proposing that for simplicity we key the notebooks we discuss at the book club to the corresponding month of the year, so for October we will be going over Notebook 10.
