Join us on Wednesday, October 11, at 6 pm, hosted at the COBL (Legienstr. 40, Kiel)!

Our agenda for the evening is as follows:

  1. Recent News in AI
    Stay updated on the latest happenings in the world of AI.
  2. Evaluating and improving the German language capabilities of open-source LLMs:
    Björn Plüster from the University of Hamburg will give as an update on his talk he gave in July at the ELLIS-LAION Workshop on Foundation Models.
    Björn is principal author of LeoLM, the first open and commercially available German Foundation Language Model built on Llama-2. He collaborates closely with Christoph Schuhmann and the LAION-Initiative.
  3. Human-Robot-Interaction for Manipulation and Navigation:
    Sören Pirk, who recently joined the University of Kiel, leading the Visual Computing and AI group, will give us some insights on his latest research projects.
    Before joining the University of Kiel, Sören was Senior Research Scientist at Adobe Research, Software Engineer in the Google AI Robotics team, and visiting Assistant Professor at Stanford University.

After the talks, we will offer as usual

  • complimentary pizza and drinks to encourage networking and further conversations.
