## Event Description

The Dark Side: Shadow, Myth, and the Hidden Forces That Shape Us
What if the parts of ourselves we repress, deny, or fear are not simply “bad,” but powerful forces trying to protect us, control us, or find expression?
In this talk, Dillon Freed explores what he calls the Dark Side, the hidden layer of the psyche connected to fear, aggression, shame, envy, power, pleasure, safety, repression, myth, and the unconscious. Drawing from psychology, neuroscience, Jungian shadow work, Freud, mythology, literature, dreams, and modern culture, this talk examines how the Dark Side appears in personal relationships, bad moods, moral outrage, projection, violence, addiction, political extremism, and collective madness.
Rather than pretending darkness does not exist, this talk argues that we must learn to see it clearly. Like the gargoyles on old cathedrals, the Dark Side must be brought into view so it can be understood, contained, and integrated. The goal is not to indulge destructive impulses, but to recognize them before they unconsciously run our lives.
The talk will also introduce practical methods for exploring the Dark Side, including tracking negative emotions, automatic writing, dream work, symbolic vision work, and learning how to give thanks for the protective role the unconscious has played.
This is not pop psychology. It is a deep, intense, and fascinating exploration of the shadow beneath the surface of the mind, and how confronting it can lead to greater self-knowledge, emotional freedom, discernment, and wisdom.
