Many period tracking apps promise accurate predictions and personalized insights, yet the algorithms behind them often remain a black box. An estimated 50 million women worldwide use these apps to track their menstrual cycle. What happens to their data, how are predictions generated, and who is accountable when those predictions fall short?

What to expect

Researchers and practitioners will explore the benefits, risks and the ethical implications of AI in cycle-tracking apps. The talks will cover:

  • How sensitive health data is collected, processed, and shared
  • What users can and cannot know about how predictions are generated
  • The responsibilities of the organizations developing these tools
  • What responsible design and use could look like in practice

Who should join

App users who want to better understand what happens to their data and how far they can rely on the insights these apps provide. The event is also relevant for software developers, professionals working with AI, researchers in AI ethics, AI and data officers, privacy and compliance specialists, product managers in health tech, and policymakers.
