This Visakha Bucha, The Kind Circle invites you to experience one of the holiest days in Buddhism through Thai cultural immersion and connection together.

What Is It About?
Visakha Bucha, also known as Vesak, commemorates the three major events in the life of Siddhartha Gautama, the Lord Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nirvana. Held annually on the full moon of the sixth lunar month, it is a day of spiritual practices, ceremonies, and reflection observed by Buddhist communities around the world.

On the evening of this day, many temples hold Wian Tian ceremonies, a traditional candlelight procession accompanied by the beautiful rhythmic chanting of monks. Participants walk clockwise around the temple grounds three times while holding candles, incense, or flowers in quiet reflection and reverence together to honor the Buddha, the Dharma (his teachings), and the Sangha (monastic community).

Update: This year our Ministry of Culture is organizing a special nationwide “1 Million Lights & 1 Million Prayers” initiative led by 10 selected temples across the country. This is a cultural initiative designed to encourage collective mindfulness, kindness, inner peace, and reflection throughout Thailand.

What to Expect
As we will be visiting sacred spaces, we kindly ask everyone to remain respectful and mindful. Modest clothes that cover the shoulders and knees is required. You are welcome to join us from the beginning or participate in just the ones that interest you. (Update: The Vipassana meditation class has limited capacity and is now closed. Read below for other open activities!)
🪷 2:00PM | Special Buddhist Event (Optional)
For those who don't mind a bit of traveling and want to join us earlier, we will meet at the main entrance of Wat Benchamabophit at 2PM (see comment section). This is the only selected temple in Bangkok hosting the "1 Million Lights & 1 Million Prayers" initiative, and featuring activities such as lotus-folding demonstrations, offerings to figures blessed from India, Bodhi tree rituals, illuminated displays, etc. You can choose to stay here until their Wian Tian ceremony or come with us to visit other temples.
🕯 4:00PM | Sunset Wian Tian Ceremony
For those who want to visit closer temples, we will meet at MRT Sam Yot Exit 1 at 4PM and walk to nearby temples such as Wat Saket for merit making and sunset Wian Tian candlelight procession ceremonies together. You can choose to observe or participate with the crowds.
🌕 8:00PM | Full Moon Night Exploration (Optional)
For anyone interested, after the event we may continue the night with a casual meal, a stroll, or even a local boat ride depending on the group’s energy and interests.
