WEST AFRICAN DRUMMING WORKSHOPS

Community Drumming Djembe & Dundun workshops for 14+ & Adults

Join us to learn how to play djembe and dundun and be transported by the hypnotic and meditative rhythm of West African rhythms in a friendly and welcoming envirionment.
From beginners to seasoned drummers, everyone is welcome! Embrace a judgment-free space where diversity is our strength.

Our group drumming workshops are not just about music, it's about creating connections, improving mental wellbeing, and having a shared experience of joy and accomplishment.

The goal of our West African Drumming study group is to work together to learn a variety of rhythms from West Africa. Each week we will learn one or two rhythms that are usually composed of 3 different djembe patterns and 3 dundun patterns.

The first hour of the workshop (6-7pm) will be for beginners, where we will teach djembe drumming technique and some of the simpler djembe patterns that are part of the different rhythms that will be taught for the rest of the workshop.

From 7-9pm intermediate and advanced students will join the group and we will learn how to play all the different djembe and dundun patterns of one or two traditional West African rhythms, and them combine all these patterns together to play these rhythms.

No experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm and let the drums do the talking.

Instruments Provided: Don't have a drum? No worries! We've got a drum waiting for every beat enthusiast. You are also welcome to bring your own djembe or dundun.

Every Thursday 6-9pm at the Hook Centre, 13 Hook Road, Chessington, KT9 1EJ. Free parking on site.
