"The cheapest barrel of oil is the one you never use." - Amory Lovins

Climate is the pressing issue of our time. We often hear that to reduce carbon emissions we need to transition to 100% electric immediately if we have any hope of staving off the worst of what's to come. Is this our only choice? Or is there a diversified energy system that would make more sense regionally and in the long run?

Paying attention to permaculture design and human history tells us that it's foolish to put all of our eggs in one basket. Relying on 100% electricity to power our lives is just that. Power companies in the Hudson Valley say the grid is old and failing and needs to be replaced with a distributed more regionally adapted grid in order to accommodate the increased transmission of electricity. Is there a plan for this to meet the increase in electricity transmission projections?

Diverse systems = Resilient systems. Andrew will present what a permaculture designed energy system looks like when designed for home scale as well as for villages, towns and entire regions.

At this meetup, Andrew will also be sharing from his new book, Earth Is Our Home: Bioregional Permaculture - A New Model for Economic Prosperity. It includes a wealth of information on the topic of local energy that's he's excited to share.
