Green Mountain Hike/Run & Food Drive
Details
Looking for a pre-Thanksgiving turkey burner? Want to support your community? The Evergreen Turtle Rockets (a local running club) are hosting the Mystic Beaver, a 6 or 12-hour endurance run at Green Mountain. This is a free-form event: you do not actually have to run, show up for the official start time, be on the course for 6 (or 12) hours, or pay any entry fee. Show up whenever you want, hike or run as much as you want, leave when you want. The event is self-supported (aka, fat-ass style). If you want to bring a snack to share with other runners/hikers, it would be appreciated but isn’t expected. The organizer asks that participants bring donations for the local food bank. Last year, 90+ runners donated 1083 pounds of food!
The course consists of two marked loops: a 5-mile loop on Tin Mine Trail and Davis Trail with about 500 feet of elevation gain, and a 3-mile Bonus Beaver loop (for a “bonus” elevation gain of another 500 feet) from the clearcut on Tin Mine Trail up to a comm tower on Gold Mountain. You can do as many laps of either or both as you wish. Of course, if you want to hike other trails to avoid crazy trail runners, that’s OK, too.

Carpooling is encouraged due to the volume of runners expected: look at the RSVP list for this event or post a comment to find a carpool buddy. Bring your 10 Essentials, Discover Pass, and donations for the food bank.
