between the busyness of work, friends, family, obligations, and more, it can be hard to articulate what our personal values are, let alone stick to them. but our values, ethics, and principles underpin not just what we do every day, but who we are and how we move through the world.
together, we’ll be exploring our own values - what they are, where they came from, how we can hold fast to them, and even whether they still fit who we are. this circle is primarily discussion-based, but we plan to engage in some other activities as well. at the end, everyone will walk away with their own personal ‘manifesto’ - written or otherwise.

this gathering is the first in a series of 6. it is part of kizunas “circles” concept, which are small, high-commitment groups that gather for 6 weeks in a row around specific themes.
✍️ little stories, little zines ✍️
we’ll notice the small details of everyday life, get inspired by the things around us, and transform them into tiny hand-made zines.
why zines? zines are small and scrappy, freeing us from the pressure of “big projects” and allowing us to play and experiment with the stories we want to tell – whether you want to fill them with sketches, lists, overheard conversations in trains, maps, or memories. it’s not about producing polished works, but about building a practice of observation, play, and creative expression in community.
each week, we’ll gather to experiment with different themes and zine-making techniques: drawing, collage, storytelling, mapping, and more. by the end, everyone will have created a collection of six zines capturing their unique perspective to add to their personal library!

the japanese music scene is a dynamic landscape that is ever-changing with never-ending fandom. in this circle, we will share our interests in japanese music, mindfully, going through eras of music by curating of each of our favorite songs. we will discuss what those songs meant to you, and then raise questions on how your favorite songs correlate to the socioeconomic and cultural influences at that time. we will also explore how the Japanese music landscape changes through time, how it interacts with each other, what inspired it, and how it inspired others!📅 this circle will meet every sunday 14-16 for 6 weeks

this gathering is the first in a series of 6. it is part of kizunas “circles” concept, which are small, high-commitment groups that gather for 6 weeks in a row around specific themes.
🎨 the “bad” art studio 🎨
we’ll experiment and challenge ourselves creatively by trying out new art forms or mediums without the pressure to be immediately good at it. this could look like exploring cyanotype printing, onion skin dye shibori workshop, quick sketching in the park, pinch/coil post with air dry clay, collages made out of leaves and flowers found in a park… just to name a few! but the idea is for us to decide on these as a group.
each week, we will approach a different art form and discuss what we liked/disliked about the process, as well as how well it aligned with our personal aesthetic sensibilities. we will also discuss the decisions that led to the final product. by the end of the circle, my hope is that we’ll all walk away with at least one new skill and an increased curiosity in the creative possibilities around us.
