ONE FUN SUNDAY HIKE TO THE PARKER BUTTE LOOKOUT

Details
*What we will do
Parker mountain, an abandoned steel lookout tower is located halfway between Ashland and Klamath Falls. It offers pretty views from the summit. It is accessible using a gravel road that starts along Rt 66, in between mile post 28/29. at the Parker Mountain Summit Pass. I will classify this hike as an ADVANCED BEGINNER hike with an elevation gain of 700 easy up/down feet and a one-way distance of 1.8 miles on a good gravel road that has lots of shade from trees along the sides of the road. At the last quarter mile of this hike, you will have the choice on either going up on the easy way or take the shortcut we created.
This hike offers pretty views along the way while at the top of Parker Mountain where there is a 360-degree unobstructed view. It is possible to sit on the stairs of the lookout and enjoy the views of Mt Ashland, Shasta, Cottonwood, Hamaker, Chase, McLaughlin, Ball and others. There is no snow mud or water or downed logs on the trail.
And some good news is that It's all downhill after lunch.
*What to bring
Good boots, hiking poles, windbreaker, lunch, water, hat, sunscreen, and your cell phone. Our weather this Sunday looks favorable with temps in the 70s light winds and some Sunshine. I will update the weather for our hike on Saturday
*Very important information.
Plan on a departure from our meetup at MOORE Park at 8:30 AM.
From our meetup we will drive south on Rt 97 and turn right at Rt 66 also called south side bypass. Continue on this road through Keno to mile post 29. From Medford the driving time using Rt 66 will be a little less than one hour. WE WILL ALL MEET AT THE PARKER SUMMIT ON RT66 at 9:30 AM.
Park on the paved section on the west side of the road.
Once all have arrived, we will caravan a short section on a shady
gravel road to our shady Trail Head.
