Aspen Butte is a difficult hike/climb with its 5.5-mile one way distance to the summit and 2,400 ft elevation gain. We are allowing 3 hours to reach the summit, a half hour on top for lunch, pictures and rest. It may take us 2 1/2 hours to return to our trailhead. That equals a full day of hiking. Please note that this will be strenuous and hard hike!!!

For those hikers who want a little more moderate and a little less difficult please consider the pretty rim view overlook. You will have a nice view inside the large mountain lakes crater and see several lakes such as Harriette and Echo Lakes. You can have lunch at this nice viewpoint then return the same way. This is a 3.7 mile one way hike with around 1,500 ft elevation gain. You may have to make the return trip to the trailhead on your own.
