This hike is 2.5 miles one way and is rated as LIGHT MODERATE. It uses a seldom used dirt road and trail that we will hike on. There is an easy elevation loss of 300 ft on the way down which we gain back when we return. Our hike will take us to a very scenic and colorful lunch spot that has superior views as it overlooks the Grand Canyon of the Klamath River. . From our lunch spot we will have some time and be able to wander around to other close by viewpoints to explore more of the beauty of the scenic Klamath River Canyon. We may see a few wild horses on this hike which seem to hang around our path. We will hike back he same way we hiked in. Do note that it will be an easy hike down, but it will take a bit more hiking work going back up.

NOTE TO ALL DRIVERS: OUR TRAIL-HEAD IS LOCATED AT THE END OF A 7.5 MILE DRIVE ON A VERY GOOD GRAVEL AND CINDER ROAD CALLED WARD RD. THIS ROAD IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE .

THIE LAND THAT WE HIKE ON IS PARTIALLY OWNED BY THE GREEN DIAMOND COMPANY AND THE REST IS BLM PROPERTY. THERE HAS BEEN SOME FOREST WORK GOING ON .

DIRECTIONS FROM KLAMATH FALLS: We will leave our meet up location at the Moore park marina parking lot at 9 AM and travel south to the south side bypass on highway 97, then on to highway 66 going towards Keno following this road up into the curvy hills to milepost 39 which will be on your left side .. About a half mile further, you will see a large intersection on your left side. This is the WARD road intersection. Here we will meet everyone going to our trail head. We will stop and wait for everyone to show up. From there we will all drive together to our trail head on WARD Road which is 25 min and 7.5 miles.
NOTE: You may choose to drive directly to the Ward Road meet up location and plan on arriving before 9 45 am.

FROM ASHLAND: Leave by 845 AM. It is 38.5 mi at an average speed of 38 mph. Drive directly to Ward road and plan on meeting us all around 10 AM. Drive east on Rt 66 towards Klamath falls for 38 miles, slow down and you will see Ward Rd. on your right side in a half mile.

FROM MEDFORD: Please leave by 8:30 AM. Take I 5 south to exit 14, turn left on Rt 66 and continued to mile post 38. Look for the ward road intersection a half mile past mile post 38. and a ton of excited hikers waiting.

BRING: Good hiking boots, poles are wonderful, a wind breaker, lunch, water, electrolytes, camera, hat, sunglasses, etc. Weather looks good with a high of 60 and mostly sunny, light winds, a nice fall picture day. Bring a pad to sit on and have lunch while viewing the canyon. This hike is dog friendly.
