This is a Hogback summit hike and is rated as strenuous. Using the new trail, it is 1.7 miles up one way and 1,800 ft elevation gain. Do bring your lunch, your good hiking boots and poles on this hike. There are some steep sections that may be a bit slick on the way down. Most of these sections have been converted by the use of large rocks for steps.
This hike is not a beginner's hike. Even when I did this hike a few days ago I took several breaks along the trail to bring my heart rate down.
It did take me 1.7 hours to reach the summit. This comes out to a speed of 1 mi/hr. When you cross the 5000 ft road you have 1 mile to go before you reach the summit. This hike was my 2,413 ascents to the summit. I started hiking up Hogsback in 2001.
There is no meet up place on this hike. Drive north on Patterson Rd to the place it reaches its crest and becomes Foothills boulevard. Turn right on Church Hill Rd, and as you pass the church entrance on your right look for a parking place on the left side, this is our TH, across from the Hogsback Trail sign. Dogs ok. on this hike Message me with questions or concerns. Hans 541 273 2479.
