ONE NICE HIKE TO SEE 6 PRETTY LAKES IN THE SKY LAKES WILDERNESS
Details
This hike is for intermediate to advanced hikers only. It starts at the Cold Springs trailhead in the sky lakes and ends at the Isherwood Lake a 3.3 mile one way hike. Along our hike we will pass the very pretty north and south Heavenly Twins Lakes, Lake Natasha, Lake Elizabeth, Lake Liza and have lunch at Isherwood Lake.
We will hike on existing open trails which are in good condition. Be prepared to hike over some fallen trees which in a few places are easy to step over but there are a few larger ones which you will have to navigate, either around or under. There are sections where our trail is snow covered and may be a little icy in shaded areas.
Since our late fall this year has been mild so far, I do expect very light winds on Sunday and rising temperatures to 50 degrees by early afternoon. This trail will take us through a large older burn area which is now an open area , allowing a dose of warm sunshine on your hike.
There is lots of water along this hike so if you have a filter, you can use it, otherwise do bring water to drink with your lunch at our lunch spot.
Since we have limited daylight hours this time of year, it is important that we follow our specified time schedule. Do note that by
300 PM the sun starts to disappear slowly behind the higher furs and pines, and you will feel the temperature starting to drop quickly.
MEET UP: We will leave our meetup location at Moore Park at 830 AM, It is a 35.5 mile drive going west on RT 140 to mile post 41 where we turn north on the 10.3 mile gravel road to the cold springs trailhead. This road is in good condition , however there are some potholes and some wet spots. Do anticipate averaging 20 mph on this road. There is no need to have a 4 WD car on this road. At our TH there is a toilet and room for 20 cars to park.
FROM MEDFORD .... Drive east on RT 140 to mile post 41. Turn left on FR 3651 going to cold springs and meet us at the TH. at 930-940 AM.
You may want to leave Medford at 8 AM.
We will arrive at Isherwood Lake at 12 30 PM with several stops at several lakes for views and photos. After a leisurely lunch we will return to our TH around 3 PM Bring Sturdy Hiking Boots and wear layers, hat, sunglasses, gloves, lunch and camera.
