END OF THE YEAR LOOP HIKE ON THE PAVED GOLF COURSE HIKING PATH AT THE RUNNING Y
Details
Our recent December weather has been very wet. Most of our hikes this day are under water or are saturated with rain and or snow making them muddy as well as slippery. The running Y which is only a few miles west of Klamath Falls has two very nicely paved 3-mile walking paths, one that circumnavigates the golf course to the west and the other one which is a solid walking trail to the east. You can choose to hike one or both of the walking paths. Please note that if you choose both paths it will be a total of 5.6 miles of paved trails with some light up and down. Both of these hikes are rated as ADVANCED BEGINNER s hike . They both starts and end at the golf course parking area, which is also our meet up location and trailhead . We will hike in a clockwise direction on both the trails. I expect that with breaks a lunch break, and a leisurely 30 min/mile pace it will take us no more than 3 hours to complete both hikes.
Our weather for this holiday period has been somewhat interesting as I am sure you have noticed. Sundays weather looks better with sunny conditions some clouds, and a high in the upper 30 degrees with light winds. However, we have a cold Sunday morning with a low of 20 deg.
This is why a 11 AM start time was chosen. Do wear WARM clothes WARM coat WARM hat and winter gloves, good hiking boots, snacks, water, cell phone, etc.
Again , our meet up and trail head will be at the Running Y. The clubhouse may be open they are not sure at this time.
DIRECTIONS TO THE TH : From Klamath Falls , drive northwest on lake shore drive past Moore Park to the Rt 140 junction. Continue west on Rt 140 for one mile to the entrance of the running Y. Turn right and continue to the 4 way stop. Turn left on Coopers Hawk Rd and drive about a mile to the golf shop and parking area on your left side. You will see some hikers getting ready for our walk at 11 AM
