This is a 2.2-mile loop hike that replaces the Sheepy Peak summit hike. The reason for the change is the muddy trail going up Sheepy Peak. This lower loop trail has no mud and only one wet section that can be circumnavigated. It has a short section of uphill after we have had some hiking time to warm up. The rest of the hike has light up hills and down hills as well as a quarter mile of light cross country hiking. This means there is no trail , and you will have to follow the leader. This hike is classified as LOW INTERMEDIATE. We will have our lunch at a very pretty high spot along our hike that offers a 360 deg unobstructed view.
After our lunch our trek is downhill all the way back to the trail head.

We pass by the holy mountain on our hike going up as well as coming back down. There are many types of birds in that area. However most of them may have left our area and are not coming back till spring.

We will meet at KCC at 10 AM. Sheepy Peak as well as this hike is in a section of the wildlife refuge area located 4.5 miles south of Merrill.

The distance from our meetup up location at KCC to the trailhead is 18 miles. If you drive to the trailhead, drive south on Rt 139 to Merrill, turn right on main street just past the huge flagpole. Follow this road to Stateline Rd, cross over it carefully into California. Keeping the trailer park on your left side follow Lower Klamath Rd for 1.4 miles. The last mile is on gravel road. Prior to the fence line on your left, turn left on a narrow dirt road and park at this intersection. This is our trail head. We should arrive at 10 30 AM. You may choose to go directly to the trailhead and meet us there or meet us at the KCC south parking lot.

Do bring with you, sturdy hiking boots, hiking poles, lunch a windbreaker, long pants, hat, sunglasses, cell phone, water and some electrolytes. Be ready for a good experience. I do think that you will have some outstanding sights of the holy rocks.
Dogs are welcomed on this hike.
