This is a beginners hike on the 2 mile in and out discovery marsh trail in the tule lake national wildlife refuge. The trail is mostly flat with nice interpretive signs explaining the area where and why many different birds hang around this place. The wildlife refuge is just north of the lava beds national monument in northern California.

Hikers who wish to do a little more than the 2 miler will have the opportunity to hike up sheepy ridge trail to the observation point and have an amazing view of the entire marsh area.
Please note that if you choose to do this section you will have a short 200 ft climb on a good trail that has steep and rocky sections.
Good hiking boots and hiking poles are strongly advised on this
section.

We will leave our meet up place at the south parking area B at the
Klamath Community College at 930 AM and caravan to our trail head which is 24 miles and a half hour drive to the visitor center.
If you wish to meet us there at 10 AM drive Rt 39 to Merrill, turn right on main street and drive to state line road HWY 161. Carefully turn left and drive about 2 miles to Hill Rd then turn right driving 4 miles south to the visitor center which will be on your left side. The visitor center has a some white vehicles in the parking area with lots of additional parking spots. It is open Mondays through Saturdays with lots of information of the area as well as rest rooms.
