A WILDERNESS LOOP HIKE AROUND HAYDEN MOUNTAIN
Details
Please note that the meet up time of 10 AM is the Daylight Savings start time. If you have not set your clock ahead one hour then you will need to meet us at 9 AM.
This is an intermediate hike of 6.6 miles intended for intermediate hikers.
It follows a closed to all car traffic backcountry roads that are in good condition with minor cosmetic problems such as a little mud and an occasional pot hole. There is only a little elevation gain and loss and has no steep or rocky sections. The hike loops around Hayden Mountain in a counter clockwise direction.
Our lunch stop will be at the Big Cinder Pit which is 4.4 miles from the beginning of our hike. After lunch we have a 2.2 mile mostly flat and downhill road section with the last .2 mile being an easy uphill taking us back to our TH.
Note that I did this hike. At my 82 yr old age I enjoyed this hike.
THE TRAILHEAD FOR THIS HIKE BEGINS AND ENDS AT THE HAYDEN MOUNTAIN SUMMIT PASS ON RT 66... WHICH IS 25 MILES FROM OUR MEET UP IN MOORE PARK.
If you choose to drive to the meet up and are coming from Klamath, plan on arriving at 10:40 AM . Allow about 40 min of travel time going west on Rt 66 to the sign that says HAYDEN SUMMIT.
Look to your left for a spot to park, this is our TH.
If you are coming from the Ashland area take Rt 66 east and near milepost 27 look for the Hayden Summit sign and turn right to park.
You may need about 45 min from Ashland to arrive at 10:40 AM.
Do bring lots of water, lunch, long pants and long sleeve shirt. A hat, sunglasses, good hiking boots, hiking poles are optional and a light wind blazer.
Our weather for Sunday looks outstanding at this time with
lots of sunshine and warm temperatures .
Dogs are welcome on this hike . They will need to be leashed up.
