Most probably the Kashmir Great Lakes trek and the Marsar Lake trek are the two most beautiful treks in the region.

For those who are not up to the difficulty level of the Kashmir Great Lakes trek, the Marsar Lake trek offered, is a great alternative. This trek is not only less crowded, it is also shorter and easier which will result in a trek that can be considerate as moderate when it comes to difficulty level.

The trek itself will take 4.5 days and leads us through a variety of terrains, including alpine meadows, dense forests, over rocky paths, providing dramatic views of the peaks of the Pir Panjal Range, lush valleys, and pristine lakes. The highest peaks might still be snow-capped if spring hasn't been warm enough to melt the snow. We will also hike through the Dachigam National Park.

As summer begins, the meadows are lush and hopefully already covered with flowers.

We will visit the Tarsar and Marsar Lakes and will spend the night along the Marsar Lake, a sacred site for locals.

Accommodation will be twin sharing in a 3 pax tent. All camping equipment, including dining and toilet tent will be provided.

We will engage horses for the luggage transfer, so you will only have to carry your daypack.

Although there are no organised activities on Day 1, make sure to arrive in Srinagar on Day 1 as we have booked accommodation for that night. Also for Day 6, upon finishing the trek, hotel accommodation is included in the package.

All transfers from and to Srinagar will be with a van.

Do note that the both treks offered, have their own trails and the lakes visited during this trek will not be visited during the Kashmir Great Lakes trek.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?

Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of India at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.

Although there will be guides, this still remains a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file in advance and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.

For more details and procedure, follow this link.

IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, earthquake, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
