This is a hike for which a Forestry permit has to be paid. We ask every participant to register and pay the permit fee at the ticket counter when entering KDCF.

Unfortunately, KDCF is one of the most crowded hiking venues in the KL area, hence we will not waste our time with looking for a parking spot near the trailhead. We will meet at the shoplots about one kilometre away, which will give us a nice and easy warm-up.

We have two trails, but four options, for this hike, all with the same destination: Puncak Denai Tiga Puteri.

Trail A is the direct route taken by 99% of the KCDF-hikers. The starting trail is Scouts, then onto Temuan, and Sahabat where we join the group taking Option B onto Unity, and finally the Tiga Puteri Trail to the peak. This route is very clear and well marked.

Trail B takes a less used route. We start with Salleh Trail, but after 400m, we go off trail for 500m of scrambling through a stream and an almost non-existent trail. We then join back onto Scouts Trail, then Serenity, and Sahabat where we join the group taking Option A onto Unity, and finally the Tiga Puteri Trail to the peak.

The four options are as follows:

  • Option 1: Trail A up and down - around 7 kilometres - IBP 33
  • Option 2: Trail A up and Trail B down - around 8 kilometres - IBP 39
  • Option 3: Trail B up and Trail A down - around 8 kilometres - IBP 41
  • Option 4: Trail B up and down - around 10 kilometres - IBP 46

Do note that due to the scrambling involved, the IBP rating of Options 2, 3 and 4 might be perceived higher as indicated.

We tackle quite some nice up- and downhills and if it has rained it might be muddy at some places.

Do not underestimate this hike. There are options to take shortcuts for those who are not up to the challenge provided you are familiar with navigation.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?

Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.

This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file at the trailhead and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers. For those who are not familiar with gps navigation, you will be guided but still have to use your own navigation app on your phone.

By 01:00 pm the last hikers should have reached the car park again.

Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that the hike effectively starts. The QR code for the gpx file can be scanned at the trailhead from 08:30 am onwards. You can start your hike at any time between 08:30 am and 09:00 am. Before or latest by 09:00 am the last participant should have started the hike.

All details can be found in the Knowledge Base.

Also the explanation of the rating can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to understand the rating system...?

It is compulsory that you respect physical distancing and the SOPs in place.
