The trails of Bukit Ketumbar are furnished with steps, roots, rocks and ropes, and it is certainly not a walk in the park. This is a very popular hiking venue during the day, but at night it is a different story.
Although one would not immediate expect a very challenging hike at Bukit Ketumbar, be prepared...
We will have two options for this event: a hike with a total distance of 4.5 to 5 kilometres and a hike with more elevation gain for a total distance between 5.5 and 6 kilometres. Those who are not up to the full distance can easily cut the hike short and look for a shortcut on the map while navigating.
We make an anticlockwise loop, but there is always a possibility to take a shortcut. Bukit Ketumbar is a small area, so you are seldom very far from the trailhead.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file at the trailhead and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers. For those who are not familiar with gps navigation, you will be guided but still have to use your own navigation app on your phone.
NO HEADLAMP, NO HIKE...!
By 11:00 pm the last hikers should have reached the car park again.
Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that the hike effectively starts. The QR code for the gpx file can be scanned at the trailhead from 07:30 pm onwards. You can start your hike at any time between 07:30 pm and 08:00 pm.
