Although ranked as the second highest mountain in Malaysia, the hike to the summit of Gunung Trusmadi via the Kaingaran trail is less difficult than most other challenging trails of the G7 or G12 hikes in Malaysia.
After we reach Tambunan early in the morning, a 4WD will bring us to the trailhead and we will start the hike once we are geared up. The first day involves a trek to the rest house, rather a more relaxed walk of two kilometres. The IBP is a mere 56 but comes with a 400m elevation gain. We will have lunch and dinner in the rest house and will spend the night in dormitory beds
The next morning we start the hike in the dark as we intend to reach the summit of Gunung Trusmadi before sunrise. The climb is much steeper, with more challenging terrain like high steps and ladders. IBP 118 and about 8 kilometres in total for the return hike.
The summit itself offers stunning views, with Mount Kinabalu often visible from the observation tower near the peak. A sight to behold...!
On the way back to the rest house, do notice Trusmadi's unique flora, including various orchids and pitcher plants.
We will have lunch at the rest house before descending to the trailhead where the 4WD will transfer us back to the gate. From there, a transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport will be organised.
This is a multiple day event for which you will not need to bring a tent. Accommodation in dormitory style will be provided.
This event does include meals, except breakfast on Day 1 and dinner on Day 2.
Personal porter services will not be needed as you will only have to carry your backpack for the first two kilometres on Day 1 and the last two kilometres on Day 2. The push for the summit and returning back to the rest house can be done with a day pack.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, [Maps.me](http://maps.me/), OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Laos, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Sabah at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
Although there will be guides, this still remains a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file in advance and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.
Do note that we will perform a check of the mandatory items right before the start of the trek. Those who are not in the possession of all mandatory items will not be allowed to start the hike.

IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, earthquake, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
