Val Gardena is located in northern Italy, in the South Tyrol region of the Alps. It offers well-marked alpine trails through flower-filled meadows, forested valleys, and dramatic pale limestone peaks.
The Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, surround it with rugged spires and panoramic ridgelines. The moderately high-altitude routes near Val Gardena are ideal for relaxed day hikes.
This event is a chance for not-so-ardent hikers to experience the majesty of the west side of Dolomites. It can also be a stepping stone for the much more challenging day hikes and multi-day treks starting from Cortina d'Ampezzo on the east side of the Dolomites in the future.
All hikes will be easy to moderate in difficulty, offering an ideal introduction to the region, and will take place at moderate altitude, with a maximum elevation of approximately 2,300–2,500m asl. All hikes are optional.
For this event, we will hike as a group.
We will spend all nights in a B&B and use it as our home base for all day hikes.
Please note that twin-bed rooms are extremely rare in Val Gardena, and participants may be required to share a double bed, each with their own duvet. If this arrangement is not suitable for you, we recommend not participating. Single-room upgrades may be available but are expected to be very expensive. Most accommodations are small, family-run bed and breakfasts with only four or five rooms, so the group may be split across locations depending on size.
This is a multiple day event without the need to carry a heavy backpack. A day pack will do as luggage can stay in the B&B.
There is an organised activity on Day 1, so make sure to arrive in Val Gardena on Day 1 before noon.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Italy, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Italy at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.

IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, earthquake, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
