It is more than two years ago since we hiked to Bukit Bal. We then started in the south, while this time we will start in the east.
We will hike trails that we haven't done with KLH before, apart from the stretch leading to the twin trees, be it that nature reclaims itself and it won't be that long anymore before the trail to the twin trees will be hard to find.
We will have four options for this event, from the easy Option A which follows and easy uphill trail to Bukit Bal and back, moderate options B and C to the ultimate Option D which will put your navigational skills to the test during the scrambling part after leaving the twin trees behind.
The hikes are around four to six kilometres in total.
Especially for hikers who opt for hike D, do not wear shorts.
As there is scrambling involved for Options B (minor), C (moderate) and D (major), the IBP rating might feel underrated.
If it has rained it might be muddy at some places.
There are options to take shortcuts but only if you are very confident in your navigation skills as there are dozens of trails on the mountain.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file at the trailhead and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers. For those who are not familiar with gps navigation, you will be guided but still have to use your own navigation app on your phone.
By 01:00 pm the last hikers should have reached the car park again.
Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that the hike effectively starts. The QR code for the gpx file can be scanned at the trailhead from 08:15 am onwards. You can start your hike at any time between 08:15 am and 09:00 am. Before or latest by 09:00 am the last participant should have started the hike.
All details can be found in the Knowledge Base.
Also the explanation of the rating can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to understand the rating system...?
It is compulsory that you respect the SOPs in place.
