Bukit Choroco is one of the lesser known hills in the area between Kuala Kubu Bharu and Fraser's Hill. Nevertheless with its 1106m above sea level, it is higher than Kutu which is only a few kilometres away.

The hill can be clearly seen from Road 55 after passing the Sungai Semangkok waterfall.

It is more than four years ago since we last hiked there. We start the hike with a serious downhill, all the way to Sungai Selangor, which we will cross.

From there on the real work starts. A narrow trail which has some very fierce uphill sections, with almost no flat sections in between. The jungle trail is beautiful and pleasant to hike.

On many occasions one might think that the summit is in reach because the treeline can be seen, but that's not the case. You have to keep pushing yourself.

Just before reaching the ridge with a relative flat section, you might have to use both arms and legs. More strenuous, but it also means that the summit is not far away anymore.

As it is the case with most mountains in Malaysia, also Bukit Choroco doesn't offer us a view at the summit, and the metal trig is the main landmark. Cut-off time at the summit will be 11:30 am.

On the way back, before starting the final climb to the car park we can have a break at the stream for some water fun...

The total distance will be around six kilometres, but do not underestimate this hike. There is no option to take any shortcuts this time.

Carpooling is highly recommended as there is not much space at the trailhead to park cars.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use OSMAnd or Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.

This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file at the trailhead and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.

By 01:00 pm all hikers should have reached the car park again.

Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that the hike effectively starts.
