We hiked Bukit Dinding on New Year's Day but this time around we'll tackle the Mini Tahan trail once again. We have two options for this event, a shorter and a full version.
It will be a serious rollercoaster workout of six to eight kilometres with at least a dozen up- and downhill sections. Most of them have ropes in place, still several downhill stretches will require balancing skills.
Many times one expect to go further up, crossing Bukit Dinding, only to find out that the trail veers downhill once more. Not only a physical but a mental challenge as well.
Due to the never ending sequence of up- and downhills, many hikers will experience this hike significantly more difficult than any other IBP 73-rated hike.
There are sections without any tree canopy coverage. Come protected...!
There are several opportunities to take shortcuts when you consult the topographic map on your device.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use OSMAnd or Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base.
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers. For those who are not familiar with gps navigation, you will be guided but still have to use your own navigation app on your phone.
By 02:00 pm all hikers should have reached the car park again.
Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that the hike effectively starts. You can check-in at the trailhead from 08:15 am onwards. You can start your hike at any time between 08:15 am and 09:00 am.
