About us
We hike at Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg, on the first Sunday of every month.
Distance, Pace, Elevation + Duration:
You will enjoy the 15km trail if you're an experienced and fit hiker. The highest point is 1785m at the reserve, that's about how high we climb at a fast pace, twice at different hills.
It takes us about 3 and a 1/2 to 4 hours at most to finish the hike. It's exhilarating and the views from the top where we walk are amazing!!π€Έπ½π
The 11km is a moderate hike. We only climb one challenging hill at a moderate pace. If you're fit you'll enjoy the hike.
It takes us about 3 and a 1/2 hours at most to finish the hike and it's lovely π₯°.
We encourage beginners to do the 5km trail, which is flat and not too demanding physically. The pace is slow, allowing one to take in the beautiful scenery, peacefully.
Time: We meet at 06:45 and the hike starts promptly at 07:00am.
Venue: We use the entrance at 129 Peggy Vera Rd in Kibler Park.
Meeting Area: When you arrive at the main entrance (gate) you will be facing the main building with a thatch roof. Walk through it. When you get to the other side you will see tables and chairs under a tree, that's where we meet.
Fee: Free.

A Special Youth Month Hike At Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve π€ΈπΎ
Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, The JCP Entrance Precint, Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park, Johannesburg (edit map), Johannesburg, ZAThis year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1976 student uprisings against apartheid education in South Africa.
This was one of the pivotal moments in our country's history when students led the government to slowly dismantle apartheid and steer the country towards a path that led to our democracy, eventually. To commemorate this significant period in our history we will hike in school uniform.
It's up to you to decide the extent to which you'll to take this. You can simply wear a school cap or a tie,
or tie your hair as students would,
or just wear a school shirt,
or even wear the entire school uniform if you want to.Community Lunch
After the hike we'll have a bring and share community lunch. Just bring what you can, it shouldn't be complicated. It can be sandwiches, dumplings or your favourite stew that mom used to cook, or aunty's best curry.
