In our first Meetup of 2025, Asha Palihakkara from the University of Nottingham will talk about her research into application of semantic web technologies and ontologies in Building Information Modelling (BIM) environment and the International Conference on Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ICCCBE) that was held in Montreal in 2024. Bonnie Bowes from Squirro will share case studies of knowledge graph use in the construction industry.

**About Asha Palihakkara:**
Asha Palihakkara is a PhD researcher at the University of Nottingham, specialising in Semantic Web applications for automated construction progress monitoring. She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Quantity Surveying from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Asha has an academic background in construction informatics and risk management, having previously worked as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Moratuwa. She has also contributed to multiple research projects as a Research Assistant, focusing on infrastructure resilience, construction automation, and risk management.

**About Bonnie Bowes:**
With background in developing taxonomies and managing taxonomy teams for major technology firms, Bonnie Bowes is a Semantic Graph Solutions Specialist at Squirro, a generative AI and graph solutions company. She holds master's degree in Library and Information Science from San José State University.
