The I Ching (also spelled Yijing or Book of Changes) is one of the oldest classical Chinese texts, with roots going back over 3,000 years. It began as a divination manual and evolved into a foundational work of Chinese philosophy, influencing Confucianism, Daoism, and later Chinese cosmology, art, and politics.
At its core, the I Ching is based on 64 hexagrams, each made up of six broken or unbroken lines (yin and yang). Each hexagram represents a situation, principle, or process of change. By consulting the I Ching (traditionally by casting yarrow stalks or coins), one receives a hexagram that serves as guidance—interpreted through a text of judgments, images, and commentaries.
The key idea is that life is in constant transformation, and wisdom comes from understanding how to move harmoniously with these cycles of change. Rather than giving fixed answers, the I Ching provides a framework for reflection and decision-making, helping people align with the dynamic balance between yin and yang.
Join us as we discuss the I-Ching, ponder what it can tell us, what we can learn, and perhaps cast some Hexagrams.
