Welcome to the Koenji Chess Club!
No registration required, all levels welcome.
Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Check the event page and follow us on Instagram at @koenji.chess for more details and updates.
Meeting at The Den in Koenji from 6 PM to 10 PM, but feel free to pop in and out anytime.
No need to bring anything, unless you’d like to bring your own board and can find table space. There are 8 tournament-style vinyl boards with triple-weighted pieces for up to 16 people.
Sometimes it can get crowded but there are clocks for timed games so people rotate. Typically the games are 5, 10, or 15 minutes with or without increments. Decide with the person you play before the start of the game.
The Den is a smash burger and craft beer bar located on the other side of the covered 'shotengai' shopping street 1 minute away from Koenji station, 2 stops from Shinjuku.
Walk up to the stairs to the 2nd floor and check in and order a drink at the bar, then come up to the 3rd floor for unlimited chess, join any table!
500 yen entry + 1 drink order. Discounted drinks for chess players starting at 500 yen.

Please order and pay at the counter on the 2F, then come up to the 3F and join any table.
