Koenji Cinema Club Vol. 7

Join the Koenji Cinema Club at The Den for a unique and unexpected independent or world cinema film in English or with English subtitles, which is usually hard to watch on a big screen in Japan.

Our 8th edition will be held on March 13th, FRIDAY THE 13TH, for an unsettling Dutch thriller about obsession, absence, and how far someone will go to confront the unknown rather than live with uncertainty.

We'd like to make the emphasis more on the event experience rather than the movie itself, encouraging everyone to attend the film without learning too much about it beforehand to go in somewhat blind and unbiased, placing more significance on the pre-screening mingling and post-screening discussion with other audience members over a beer or soft drink.

So come on down, sip on something tasty, and mingle with fellow film enthusiasts as we delve into the artistry, creativity, and unique perspectives of movies that are often difficult to watch in Japan. Whether you are a seasoned cinephile or simply looking to broaden your cinematic horizons, this is a chance to explore films in a welcoming and laid-back atmosphere.

Discussion: 9:30-11:00 PM

When you arrive, check in at the bar on the 2nd floor with your name or email. There's no other confirmation online after purchase. Then, hang out and chat with fellow filmgoers until we will make our way upstairs a few minutes before the start. Afterward, we head back down for a final drink and discussion. If you’d like to just watch the film and sneak out afterward, that’s alright too!

Address: 4-25-8 Koenjiminami 2/3F. The Den is located 2 minutes from Koenji Station (JR Chuo/Sobu line). Take the south exit, cross the street, and it's on the right side of the small alley, which is on the other side of the PAL 'shotengai' shopping street.

Tickets: 1,500 yen advanced event ticket + 1 drink order at the venue. Complimentary popcorn!

~ Great news! We will now be holding 2 cinema club nights a month. Every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. Trial period until May. If there is enough interest, we will be able to continue this club on that schedule all year. So if you enjoy cinema club night, or want to try it out for the first time, be sure to show support and come to one or both events! ~
