Dear All !!!

The recent event "Disaster Survival - Test Your Survival Skills" was fantastic. Each person learned and improved. The weekend also had its challenges. Despite the forecast, the nighttime temperature dropped to below zero and the sun remained mostly hidden. We were reasonably well prepared. Our “disaster survival bug-out rucksacks” included our personal choice of shelter and sleeping system, namely clothes, tarps and sleeping bags, as well as cordage, firestarting/fire system for cooking and warmth, decent knife, cooking pot/cups. However, even with the minimal packing, we still found that we had packed a little too much!

The weekend was great. We each pottered with our own small projects. We practiced our fire starting techniques, set up variations of our sleeping and shelter systems, cooked with different stove types, used different techniques on the open fire, whittled solutions such as pot holders. We chatted, relaxed and exchanged experiences.

The weekend was a great opportunity. We evaluated our material, skills and approaches, identifying what we could do better on the next outing. And therefore now ...

...The Follow-UP Weekend!
Lessons have been learned. We’ve adapted our approaches and material, and will now face the challenge again from 17 - 20 December.

The goals are:

  • to spend time in the outdoors with the sensible minimum in our “disaster survival bug-out rucksacks”. The sensible minimum varies from person-to-person, subject to experience/needs, but the rucksack should be transportable and not overpacked.
  • to explore techniques and extend our boundaries (e.g. tent to tarp to emergency shelter, fire starting skills, food planning and cooking skills)
  • to learn from the others, their bushcraft knowledge and experience
  • to relax, chat and do our own thing (no stress)

Preparation:

  • Everyone looks after themselves and brings their own material, namely food, drinks (e.g. tea, coffee), fire tools, cooking utensils, cutlery, and if staying overnight, a sleeping system, a cover/shelter such as tarp/tent. If wished, contact us for any thoughts/feedback on what to bring.
  • You should bring enough food for yourselves, because nature won't give us a full plate during these days.
  • Drinking water is available from a spring (1 km walk). You should filter your water. If you don’t have a filter, water can be shared.

Weekend plan is flexible

  • In terms of a firm plan, someone already plans to build an emergency shelter on Saturday and possibly sleep in it on Saturday night
  • Pottering with bushcraft (“to potter” - meaning to occupy oneself without any particularly defined plan, but nonetheless pleasant way)

Cost
It costs nothing. We'll share our knowledge and experience.

Arrival
You can arrive on Friday or on Saturday, as you wish, we will be happy to pick you up, but be on time. It is very simple, be at the station Baden, in front of the Starbucks at 08.30 am at the latest, we will return to the camp at 08.40 am, period.

Stay warm,
