[In-Person Meetup] Chennai : Kong User Group
Details
We are thrilled to invite you to our in person meetup in Chennai!
Kong makes connecting APIs and microservices across today’s hybrid, multi-cloud environments easier and faster than ever. We power trillions of API transactions for leading organisations globally through our end-to-end API platform.
In this session, we’ll learn the basics of how to design and test APIs using Insomnia by Kong. We’ll also talk about what API Gateways are, how they work, and why they’re useful. This is a beginner-friendly session—perfect if you're new to APIs or just want to understand them better.

Agenda
11:00 - 11:30 Networking, everyone gathers
11:30 - 12:15 - Introduction to Insomnia, Simplifying API Design & Testing By Juhi Singh, Developer Advocate, Kong
As developers, we often deal with APIs—whether we're building them, testing them, or debugging issues. In this session, I’ll share how Insomnia make it easy for us.
We'll walk through how I use Insomnia to:
- Quickly test and send API requests
- Organize environments and variables for different projects
- Work with OpenAPI specs without hassle
- Keep things simple when collaborating with teammates
If you’re working with APIs regularly and want something lightweight but capable, this session might give you a few helpful ideas.
12:15 - 1:00 : Understanding API Gateways – what they are and why they matter by Kumar Aditya
If you've worked with microservices, you've likely come across the term "API Gateway." But what does it actually do, and why is it such a vital component in modern architectures?
In this session, I’ll share real-world insights into how Kong API Gateway integrates into complex systems, drawing from my experience across various transitions; from Cassandra to PostgreSQL, self-hosted to managed deployments, and now moving towards Kong Konnect.
We'll cover:
- What an API Gateway truly is and the key problems it solves
- Why we chose Kong, and how it’s influenced our overall architecture
- The challenges we encountered with some dependencies (and how we navigated them)
- How Kong has helped streamline authentication, rate limiting, and observability as our systems have scaled
1:00 to 1:15 : Kong Quiz
1:15 - 2:00 Lunch & Networking
Would love to host you over a great lunch and networking session.
Take home some awesome Kong swag!
