Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind [Subtitled]

Another Ghibli Fest is upon us!

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984) is the first collaboration between director Hayao Miyazaki and composer Joe Hisaishi. It is based on the manga by Miyazaki that ran from 1982 to 1994, so it represents only a part of a much larger story.

Though this film was made before Studio Ghibli was founded, it is considered a Studio Ghibli film and is consistently one of the best regarded anime movies in Japan.

Here is a summary:

"A thousand years after the Seven Days of Fire destroyed civilization, warring human factions survive in a world devastated by atmospheric poisons and swarming with gigantic insects. The peaceful Valley of the Wind is nestled on the edge of the Toxic Forest and led by the courageous Princess Nausicaä, whose love of all living things leads her into terrible danger, as she fights to restore balance between humans and nature."
