Founded in 2008, the creative ensemble UNI-FI has a diverse portfolio of world music and popular arts -- drawing inspiration from BTS to Hollywood to Korean folk -- brought together by the motto “Create something new by bringing together what's different.” Its members are professional artists from various performing arts fields who continually seek to push the boundaries of music itself.
With Sound of Connection, UNI-FI showcases its unique brand of performance art through new and remixed familiar music, including Wings of the Ideal, Misty, Over the Rainbow, Love Song, Under the Sea, and a BTS Medley. Each piece involve a collaboration of diverse world instruments: Korean haegeum, electric guitar, contrabass, drums, keyboard, and vocals all find their place, along with dance and an undeniable, foot-tapping stage presence. UNI-FI often reinterprets famous songs from Hollywood, pop music, and Korean folk, as well as cutting-edge world music. The Korean upright fiddle haegeum, an icon of traditional music in its own right, gets special attention, complimented by a host of Western instruments. Beloved for centuries, the haegeum expresses the deeply felt Korean emotion of han: a mixture of joy, sorrow, hatred, and desire. In everything they do, UNI-FI effortlessly balances modern music-making with the traditional culture embedded in Korean instruments.
