Kotlin Budapest Online Meetup - February

Details

Join us for the first online Kotlin Budapest meetup of 2021, in February!
We are still aiming for keeping the community safe, so all talks will be streamed online on our Kotliners YouTube channel.

All our talks will be in English as usual.

We are proud to introduce our speakers:

  • Main talk: Alexey Zinoviev (Machine Learning Engineer in Kotlin for Data Science Team @ JetBrains)
Talk title: Introduction to Deep Learning with KotlinDL
Abstract: In this talk, I’ll guide you through the main concepts of Deep Learning. We’ll take a look at what building blocks a Neural Network consists of and what are some knobs that you can tweak. Finally, I’ll show you how you can build, train, and use a convolutional neural network (CNN) entirely in Kotlin with the help of KotlinDL and we discuss how it can be used in production.

  • Lightning talk #1: Katie Levy (Software Engineer @ Amazon Fashion) and Shelby Cohen (Software Engineer @ Twitter) - joint presentation
Talk title: Kotlin and FP: The Best of both Worlds
Abstract: Functional Programming is an excellent way to simplify your code and reduce bugs. To make things even better, Kotlin provides a natural transition to using Functional Programming paradigms.
In this talk, we'll break down the key aspects of what defines Functional Programming and the key benefits of using Functional Programming paradigms. Then we'll walk you through how to use FP more in your Kotlin code, to really have the best of both worlds.

  • Lightning talk #2: Pál Matolay (Android Developer @ Makery)
Talk title: What's new in KorGE 2.0?
Abstract: KorGE is a modern, multiplatform, open-source game engine for Kotlin. KorGE 2.0 was released recently, with a lot of exciting new features and quality-of-life improvements. In this talk I'll cover the basics of the engine, what's new in 2.0, and a showcase about what's possible with KorGE.

P.S.:
We are looking for more teams/people to share their experience around Kotlin, so if you would like to speak at the next event, please contact us via this form (https://bit.ly/3nv5VfK), at the event, or in the Kotlin Budapest Facebook group.
