September 2021 Online Kotlin Meetup - Remote Working Special

Details

The September virtual edition of the meetup is Wednesday 8th September from 6 pm BST (3:30 pm IST / 1 pm EDT / 10 am PDT).

The pandemic has turned our work life upside down and new patterns and behaviours have emerged; how are companies adapting to the new reality? How teams can thrive and employees be happy?
Join us for a special event of Kotlin London where, instead of focusing on coding, we’ll focus on everything around it.

We'll be joined by:

  • Hadi Hariri (Developer Advocacy @JetBrains)
  • Carmel Quinn (People and Culture Director @47 Degrees)
  • Garth Gilmour (Head of Learning @Instil)
  • Edie Cockrell (Business Support and Community Coordinator @Novoda)

The panel will be moderated by Enzo Belli. The live stream will be available on the Kotlin London Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/kotlinlondon/).

Spread the word, bring your favourite beverage, get some pizza ordered, and join the conversation!

Schedule:

  • 6 pm: Welcome to the Kotlin Online Meetup and Introduction
  • 6.05 pm: Panel introductions and discussion
  • 6:45 pm: Open up to questions
  • 7 pm: Close

Panel Bios

Hadi Hariri (Developer Advocacy @JetBrains)

  • Developer and creator of many things OSS, his passions includes Web Development and Software Architecture. Has authored a couple of books, a few courses and has been speaking at industry events for nearly 20 years. Currently at JetBrains leading the Developer Advocacy team. Spends as much time as he can writing code.

Carmel Quinn (People and Culture Director @47 Degrees)

  • Carmel Quinn is the People and Culture Director at 47 Degrees. Her varied career started in marketing and PR but for the last 17 years Carmel's focused on the People and Culture proposition. Carmel has worked mainly for tech and consulting companies and prior to joining 47 Degrees ran her own HR consulting company specialising in SME's and Startups.

Carmel has a good understanding of the complexities of business but more importantly, after a lifetime of working with people in all disciplines of HR as a generalist, she has a holistic view on all things people. She is a real advocate of the people experience, its values and purpose-driven and just so you know she loves what she does!

Garth Gilmour (Head of Learning @Instil)

  • Garth is the Head of Learning at Instil.
He gave up full-time development back in 1999 to first teach C++ to C coders, then Java to C++ coders, then C# to Java coders and now teaches everything to everybody, but prefers to work in Kotlin. If he counted deliveries it would have gone past 1000 some time ago.
He is the author of over twenty courses, speaks frequently at meetups, presents at conferences and co-organises the Belfast BASH series of developer events.
When not at the whiteboard he coaches Krav Maga, lifts heavy weights and fights nerf wars with his kids.

Edie Cockrell (Business Support and Community Coordinator @Novoda)

  • Edie is the business support and community coordinator at Novoda by day, and by night, a passionate remote work ambassador. Eager to spread the message of successful hybrid and remote-first business, and how to get there.
