Camino de Santiago – The Final 100 km Pilgrimage (Easter Bank Holiday)
Details
Walk one of Europe’s most iconic pilgrimage routes—the last 100 km of the Camino Francés. This legendary path has welcomed pilgrims for over a thousand years, winding through gentle rolling hills, oak and eucalyptus forests, and charming Galician villages.
Each day brings a blend of beautiful countryside, rich cultural history, and the quiet satisfaction of working towards a meaningful goal—earning your Compostela certificate in Santiago. Walking as part of a group allows you to enjoy the Camino without worrying about logistics or navigation—I’ll take care of all of that, so all you need to do is walk, connect, and enjoy the journey. ☺️
What to Expect on the Route
🏘️ Galician Towns & Villages
The route winds through a series of traditional Galician towns and villages, each with its own character and Camino atmosphere. We’ll pass stone houses, small chapels, local cafés, and lively pilgrim meeting points. Evenings are spent in welcoming towns where walkers from all over the world gather to share stories, food, and a sense of achievement after the day’s walk.
This part of the Camino feels deeply rooted in everyday Galician life—rural, friendly, and unhurried—offering a wonderful balance of movement and rest.
🌿 Woodland Trails & Countryside
Between towns, the Camino leads us along peaceful woodland trails, shaded paths, country lanes, and rolling farmland. We’ll walk through oak and eucalyptus forests, cross small streams, and pass quiet hamlets where life moves at a slower pace.
These stretches are some of the most reflective and enjoyable parts of the journey—gentle underfoot and ideal for settling into a comfortable walking rhythm while enjoying the natural beauty of northern Spain.
⛪ Santiago de Compostela—The Grand Finale
The journey culminates in Santiago de Compostela, one of Europe’s great pilgrimage destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage city. Entering the historic old town on foot is an unforgettable moment, as we arrive at the magnificent cathedral that has drawn pilgrims here for over a thousand years.
Here you’ll have time to celebrate your achievement, collect your Compostela certificate, attend the Pilgrim’s Mass if you wish, and enjoy the vibrant streets, cafés, and atmosphere of this remarkable city.
🥾 Walking Distance
Approx. 100 km spread over 5 walking days. Daily distances range from around 19–29 km (12–18 miles).
👥 Group size
This trip is intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 8 participants, to create a relaxed, supportive, and personal walking experience. Places are limited, so if this trip speaks to you, don’t wait too long to book.
🛏️ Accommodation
Comfortable hotels throughout, with twin rooms shared with the same gender, all with private bathrooms. Unlike the traditional Camino albergues, this trip does not involve large dormitories or shared sleeping spaces, allowing you to properly rest and recover after each day on the trail.
✈️ Getting There & Meeting Point
The trip starts and finishes in Santiago de Compostela.
Flights are not included in the trip price, as everyone travels from different locations and often has different preferences. You’re free to book flights from any airport that suits you.
- Meeting airport: Santiago–Rosalía de Castro Airport, Santiago de Compostela (Address: Lavacolla S/N, 15820, A Coruña, Spain; Airport code: SCQ)
- Meeting point & time: In front of the Arrivals gates at 13:30
I recommend booking a flight that arrives before the meeting time so we can start the trip together smoothly. Below are some example outbound flight options you might find useful when booking from London:
- Vueling – 09:40 from Gatwick
- British Airways – 09:40 from Gatwick
- Ryanair – 10:10 from Stansted
🛄 Flexibility at the End
As our final day is Thursday, 9 April, it’s easy to extend your stay in Santiago, explore more of Galicia, or continue travelling if you’d like a longer break.
🎒 Luggage on the Camino
In keeping with the traditional pilgrimage spirit, the plan is to carry our own backpacks during the walk.
That said, I’ve now found a reliable and affordable luggage transfer company, so for anyone who would prefer not to carry their bag, I can arrange optional luggage transfers for an additional cost (around £40 for the whole route).
For those who choose to carry their backpack, there will also be an option to leave extra luggage securely in Santiago for a small fee—especially helpful if you’re planning to stay on longer after the walk or continue travelling.
I’ll provide clear guidance on what to pack and how to pack light before the trip, whichever option you choose.
