What we’re about
Founded by professor Ryan Thorpe in 2015, in Shanghai, a group for anyone interested in writing, reading, editing, or publishing. We frequently get together, share our work, talk shop, and seek advice from one another to try and develop our writing skills. Fiction and Nonfiction alternate Tuesdays, poetry meets on alternating Wednesdays, and there's an open writing time on alternating Sunday afternoons. We are open to all skill levels and nationalities, are free for our basic events, and the most important quality that we look for is a passion for writing. If you have that, then we look forward to looking at your work.
Now we are doing that in Kuala Lumpur. Please scan the QR code to join our official WhatsApp group for information. Our website also has basic information on it: https://inkwell.asia.

Writers Retreat
Location not specified yetThis year, we invite you to a new retreat that captures the same vibrant spirit in an unforgettable setting. From December 13th to 15th, find your inspiration in Langkawi, nestled between coconut palms and lush tropical gardens. Sink your feet into the silky white sand of a beach that meets a tranquil sea. At the Frangipani Langkawi Resort, you'll stay in private beachfront cottages, shared by two participants. Join us for this dream vacation on a magical island and connect with a community of creative writers from around the world.
Because Inkwell is a non-profit, we keep costs as accessible as possible. Your payment of MR 950 covers your two-night stay in a private twin cottage (shared with one other person) and three daily meals. If you prefer to have the cottage to yourself, simply add a RM 415 supplement.
We will gather on Saturday, December 13th, in the afternoon. After checking in, we'll enjoy our first lunch together, followed by an introductory session. You will then have some free time to settle in and enjoy the resort's magical atmosphere.
At 6 PM, we'll reconvene for dinner, followed by our first workshop at 7 PM: "How to Write a Short Story," led by our bestselling author and Inkwell founder, Ryan Thrope.
Sunday morning begins with breakfast, followed by a brand-new experience: a Scavenger Hunt on Oriental Island. You'll have a few hours to complete the hunt's prompts before we break for lunch at 1 PM. The afternoon is yours to write or explore the island.
We will have dinner at 6 PM, after which we'll hold a short story discussion workshop.
On Monday morning, after breakfast, we will have an inspiration session at 10 AM featuring self-published writers sharing their success stories. This will be followed by check-out, as you depart with an unforgettable experience.
Spaces for this retreat are limited, so be sure to secure your place by the November 29th deadline. To complete your booking, kindly transfer the full amount to Hussin before this date. We're so excited for you to join us! Please be aware that, as we must confirm our arrangements with the resort, all registrations become final and non-refundable after November 10th.
