Unlocking Observability in Apache Kafka-Based Systems with OpenTelemetry

Abstract:
Distributed tracing is essential for tracking requests across micro-services. But when it comes to Kafka’s decoupled producers, consumers, and asynchronous processes, tracing a transaction from start to finish isn’t always straightforward.In this talk, we will go th rough how to monitor Kafka-based applications using distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry. By leveraging tools like Jaeger and New Relic, we’ll uncover how to gain a full view of your micro-services, even in the face of Apache Kafka’s asynchronous nature. we’ll also walk through both automatic and manual instrumentation to capture rich telemetry.

Foundations of Stream Processing with Kafka and Flink

Abstract:
Data is no longer something we collect and analyze later...it’s something that flows continuously. With tApache Kafka and Apache Flink, we can process and understand this flow in real time, turning raw streams into instant insights and harness complex event processing. We're covering the basics and how these technologies work together to achieve it.

Bio:
Filipe is well versed with both batch and streaming technologies and has been working with customers from various industries across the EMEA and APAC regions over the last 9 years in the analytics space. In that time, he helped deliver numerous data enablement programs successfully in various roles, including infra, architecture design and data engineering and has brought his experience to Confluent PS team over the last year.
