Cloud and Container Interconnectivity with Skupper and Cilium/eBPF

Details
We are excited to announce the November meetup!
This time we'll meet at the JPMorgan Chase & Co. offices.
For access details, **click here **or check the meetup photo below.
We'll have 2 presentations on the theme of cloud interconnectivity and container networking:
- Solve vexing multi-cloud connectivity problems with Skupper - Ted Ross - Red Hat
- Using Cilium/eBPF for container network connectivity - Lawrence Gadban - Solo.io
1st Presentation:
- Solve vexing multi-cloud connectivity problems with Skupper - Ted Ross - Red Hat
Cloud computing is maturing in capability and popularity. Enterprises big and small are increasingly using public and private clouds to host their data and computing workloads. Even in a simple distributed application, the communication between various cloud locations and footprints is fraught with difficult technical problems. TCP/IP networking, which was designed to serve a client-server world, is not easily adapted to provide the anywhere-to-anywhere connectivity that cloud-native systems now demand. The Skupper project (skupper.io) provides an abstraction for software interconnect that leverages the strength of TCP/IP while providing next-level capabilities, security, and ease of use for modern distributed software systems.
In this session, the Skupper project and the abstraction it implements will be introduced. Commonly seen use-cases will be described and a live demonstration of the technology will be presented.
Speaker Bio:
Ted Ross is an open-source software developer with Red Hat. He is a committer at the Apache Software Foundation and is the author of Apache Qpid Dispatch Router (now Skupper Router). He is currently devoting his time to the Skupper project. His background is in embedded systems and Networking. One of Ted’s primary interests is bringing the performance, scale, and reliability of Networking together with the rich utility and developer friendliness of Messaging into a compelling communication offering for distributed systems. Ted has also worked for Top Layer Networks and Digital Equipment Corporation.
2nd Presentation:
**Using Cillium for container network connectivity - Lawrence Gadban - Solo.io**
Cilium is an open source container networking solution that heavily utilizes eBPF, an exciting and powerful Linux kernel technology. Both Cilium and eBPF are exploding in popularity, and this session intends to provide an overview of both technologies and hopefully explain why they are quickly gaining steam. Additionally, as eBPF has significant usage outside of Cilium, we will explore other places eBPF can help in the cloud native landscape.
Speaker Bio
Lawrence is a Software Architect at Solo.io currently focusing on Istio, Cilium, eBPF, and how these technologies can be used together to provide a powerful application networking platform. Previously he spent time as a Field Engineer and worked directly with organizations of all sizes to architect, adopt, and implement various application networking components including service mesh and API gateways.
Pizzas and beverages will be provided.
