The come-back of the K8s meetups

Details

Hello everyone,

After a long period without any cool K8s talks, your favorite meetup is coming back strong.

In the agenda we have :

  1. Welcome and pizza
  2. kpt, configuration as Data
  • Description: This talk presents the (intermediate) results of a study examining whether a new approach to mass-configuration of services makes sense compared to the current almost defacto practice of using helm. We will go over kpt, a package-centric toolchain that enables a WYSIWYG configuration authoring, automation, and delivery experience, simplifying managing Kubernetes platforms and KRM-driven infrastructure at scale by manipulating declarative Configuration as Data. Ok, the last sentence is taken for documentation, but this will be my journey and how it compares to the current approach we use a Collibra and how it resembled a technique that I used at the beginning of my Kubernetes career.
  • Speaker: Alex Van Boxel is a Principal System Architect at Collibra. With an engineering background in Research and Development at Alcatel-Lucent, Progress Software, and Veepee he loves to focus on the fundamental building blocks of the software industry. That means reading, understanding, and contributing to specifications, as well as contributing to the Open Source projects that run through our infrastructure. He loves talking about technology and sharing his knowledge through mentoring, writing articles, and public speaking.
  1. Enterprise ready AKS in minutes
  • Description: In this session I will walk you through the AKS deploy helper: https://azure.github.io/Aks-Construction/. It provides you with an ARM template to easily deploy your AKS cluster in an enterprise ready way. But what about the different options available and when should you go for what checkbox? And what is that Enterprise Scale slider at the top?
  • Speaker: Gitte Vermeiren - Engineer with the FastTrack for Azure team at Microsoft. On a day to day basis I help our customers with their setup and configuration of Azure services. My main focus there is all things app dev on the Azure platform, like AKS, App Service, Spring Apps, DevOps, GitHub, IaC ... Each week I see a whole bunch of interesting and challenging architectures from customers, who we onboard on the platform. We strive to make their experience as smooth as possible. Before, I was a Cloud Solution Architect with Microsoft, acting as a trusted advisor for our highly valued customers and partners in Belux. I also have experience as a Technical Architect, Team Lead and Dev in consultancy.
  1. Updatecli, on a GitDevOps Journey
  • Description: Today's software project relies more than ever on a myriad of projects, from code libraries to infrastructure components. It means that to keep our project growing, we also need to keep up on where those other projects are heading and adapt accordingly. In this presentation, I propose to step back to understand why we started building Updatecli, the challenges we are facing, and where we are heading. And because it's a Kubernetes Meetup, I'll show how we use Updatecli on the Jenkins project to maintain the project Kubernetes cluster(s) and all files related to those, such as Helmfile, Helm Chart, etc.
  • Speaker: Olivier Vernin is an Engineering Manager at SUSE, working on Kubernetes's related projects such as Rancher. Former Infrastructure officer of the Jenkins project. Olivier has extensive experience in building OSS tooling around infrastructure automation.
  1. Networking
