Sessions: (Will begin at 19:00)
- Welcome By Telenet (10’’)
- Azure Container Apps by Geert Baeke (35’’)
When you have made the decision to run your applications in containers, the typical choice in Azure would be Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). Although AKS has many capabilities, you often do not need them or they are more complex than you want them to be. In this session, we will look at replacing AKS with Azure Container Apps, Microsoft’s “serverless” container offering. We will look at how it works and how you get a multi-container app up and running quickly.
About Geert Baeke: With over 20 years of experience as an engineer, architect, and speaker, Geert focuses on cloud-native application stacks using Kubernetes, PaaS, and serverless computing. As a Microsoft Azure MVP, he focuses mainly on helping customers on their journey to the Azure cloud.
- AWS Hub Spoke architecture by Telenet's Public Cloud & CICD squad (35’’)
How do you facilitate the use of Public Cloud platform by various development squads in an organization while maintaining peace of mind?
We sought to find a shared architecture that strikes a balance between security and standardization This setup enables development teams to take advantage of the benefits of public cloud and achieve faster time-to-market. In this talk, we will share our insights on how the Telenet Public Cloud & CICD squad set up a hub-spoke model with Direct Connect on AWS.
About Telenet's Public Cloud & CI/CD Squad: the squad is a team of Cloud engineers that designs and implements the foundation and common services for public cloud and CI/CD on which applications are built and run. This foundation covers aspects of connectivity, security, automation along with management of identity, account and cost. A common foundation facilitates uniformity across implementations and helps development teams start their cloud journey on the right foot.
The team is composed of super cool nerdy Cloud Engineers, a visionary Product Owner, and a driven Scrum Master. All share an open, innovative engineering mindset and focus on the following principles: developer friendly, operational excellence, automation, secure, performant, reliable and cost conscious.
- Bypassing security controls in the K8S ecosystem by Philippe Bogaerts (35’’)
Kubernetes and the eco-systems around it are fundamentally complex systems with lots of different potential attack vectors aimed at data theft, currency mining and many other threats. The attack surface is immense. Most security controls do not offer an acceptable level of protection and are easy to bypass. By looking at the problem from different angles, we'll discuss where and how to protect our applications, workloads, and clusters better and reliably.
About Philippe Bogaerts: more than 20+ years of experience in security. Starting out as a trainer specializing in advanced TCP/IP protocols, networking and security, Philippe quickly became known by colleagues as “Philippe hacks to learn”. Being a pioneer in network firewall, reverse proxy and load-balancing, Philippe later on specialized in web application security with a focus on penetration testing and web application firewalling. Today, Philippe contributes mostly by writing blog posts [https://xxradar.medium.com](https://nam06.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fxxradar.medium.com%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cjorgegar%40microsoft.com%7C39647474bbea44ff038a08daa5192a09%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C638003824780674855%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=42oRMkMTxHiQ%2BapMzZvPbYyqYBj1Tj507YYlvALnDQc%3D&reserved=0) , talking at meetups as well as co-organizing a renowned security conference [https://brucon.org](https://nam06.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbrucon.org%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cjorgegar%40microsoft.com%7C39647474bbea44ff038a08daa5192a09%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C638003824780831080%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Ye9wV49hUBNXR3OYQxb5L6qfZuL2V6gINIsm0XxXXY0%3D&reserved=0) .
